POPCAP '15 - This is it!

POPCAP, the piclet.org prize for contemporary African Photography was held for the fourth time in 2015. It is directed at artists who deal with photographic content relating to the African continent and/or its diaspora. POPCAP aims to raise the profile of African photography within the art world and provide more publicity for artists who engage with the African continent. The 4th edition received submissions from 700 artists from 58 countries, 45% of which came from African countries – an increase of 7% since the 2014 edition. The five winning works were selected online by an internationally-sourced 19 person panel of judges.

Following exhibitions in Tunisia, Switzerland and Malaysia, the POPCAP winners’ exhibition were presented on three occasions in west and north Africa. The large scale outdoor shows include approximately 60 images by Filipe Branquinho, Tahir Carl Karmali, Zed Nelson, Zied Ben Romdhane, and Romaric Tisserand. For the third consecutive year POPCAP was shown at the sixth edition of LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria. Just one week later the exhibition opened at the 10th Bamako Encounters, the longest running photography festival on the continent. The presentation at the 9th Fès Encounters in Morocco closed this year’s exhibition cycle.
